Random Violence

So the big news of the weekend was the murder of a Dartmouth student near UC Berkeley’s Unit 2 dorms. CalStuff has done a great job covering the story.

I don’t know what else there is to add. I lived in Unit 2 during my freshman year, so I’m pretty shocked that such a thing could occur so close to where I once resided. I’m not saying that it’s a safe place. People’s Park is a block away, and all sorts of shady things go on in there. My dorm was broken into during the Winter Break of my freshman year. Dozens of rooms were broken into and burglarized, including my own. But a murder. Man, I never would have expected that.

It seems that these kinds of things happen for no apparent reason. A similar tragedy occured to a Michigan student a few weeks ago. I don’t know what to make of it. You just have to realize that there are some unstable people in this world.

  1. How terrible…and right by where I lived/will live next year, too. *Sighs*.
