Steve Jobs: iGov?

The SF Chronicle is reporting that Steve Jobs may run for Governor of California, at least according to the “quiet conversations of Democratic activists.” Hat tip to Engadget.

Also mentioned as possibilities are Robin Williams (I like your movies, but no), Rob Reiner (Some decent movies, but South Park says you suck and I’m a South Park Republican), and Warren Beatty (Haven’t seen many of your movies, but you know what I think of you).

But Steve Jobs is an interesting guy. I’m not really an Apple fan, but give him some credit for turning the company around. And Pixar… Pixar! Gotta love those movies. Besides his successful capitalism, he also isn’t as unreasonable as some of the other Dems. I excerpted a quote from one of his Wired interviews in a previous post, and I’ll do it again here too:

It’s a political problem. The problems are sociopolitical. The problems are unions. You plot the growth of the NEA [National Education Association] and the dropping SAT scores, and they’re inversely propotional. The problems are unions in the schools. The problem is Bureacracy. I’m one of these people who believes the best thing we could ever do is go to the full voucher system.

Now here’s someone finally talking sense.

In conclusion, my 2006 vote is still up for grabs. I only vote for Republicans and Libertarians, but maybe I’ll make an exception for Mr. Jobs (provided I learn more about his other views). On the other hand, he did give a speech at Stanfurd. Can that be forgiven?

  1. […] The California Patriot Blog is reporting (reporting?) that Democratic activists (who are they) have tossed Steve Jobs’s name around as a possible candidate for California’s next governor. A dumb rumor that is certain to spread throughout the macosphere. […]

  2. Another possibility is Feinstein. She has tried to become governor twice in the past. Almost every senator wants to be president and the easiest way to be elected president is to first be elected governor. So if Arnold’s poll numbers don’t improve much, we could see Feinstein take the risk and run for governor.

Incidentally, that would leave her senate seat open in 2006.

  4. Heh… I watched Mrs. Doubtfire about 20 times when I was a kid. I also find him to be believable in some of his darker roles (One Hour Photo, The Final Cut). It takes a pretty good actor to play both funny and serious equally well.

Now let me lose even more credibility here: I like Rob Schneider movies too… =)

  6. I don’t think that Steve Jobs would be a bad candidate to run for governor. At least he has some business skills that, as many have found, are also necessary to be successful in politics. He can’t be much worse than that actor guy who is in there now…
