ASUC Senator Igor Tregub Resigns
Berkeley College Republicans win spot in the senate
By Chris PageThis evening ASUC Senator Igor Tregub of Student Action stepped down from his senate post. Igor cited his inability to give his full effort to serve the students who elected him and those who did not. When describing his energy and commitment to his constituents, Igor said “199% is a deficit.” He summarized the progress on his latest bills and his fondest memories of this past year and a half of being a senator. Tregub promised to continue his work on Diversity Week if asked and noted that he is confident the members of the Senate will continue to represent students in an excellent way. Tregub received a standing ovation at the conclusion of his farewell address.
Tregub was first elected to the ASUC senate in 2004 and served on the Commercial Development Committee and the ASUC Store Operations board. He worked to represent the interests of Cal students living on the Northside of campus, and committed himself to adopting an Academic Bill of Rights.
Tregub’s senate seat will be filled by the candidate who placed 21st in the 2005 Senate election. The ASUC website indicates that Melissa Jones of the Berkeley College Republicans party is next in line to replace Tregub.

Finally, a chance to push the evil agenda.

A Republican on the council? Good! The first thing on the agenda should be a motion to abolish “Diversity Week”. With students, faculty, and staff from 100 countries, Cal doesn’t need to worry about “diversity”.

“Diversity Week” was not an event about diversity of skin color, Scott. Igor planned this event to focus on diversity of ideology and ideas, something that this campus clearly lacks. You’re mistaken in your belief that a Republican is now replacing one of the many ultra-liberals on the ASUC Senate.

[…] I’m a little late on this news (Blogsome was moving servers at the time he resigned and so I couldn’t post to CalStuff for about 48 hours). The Daily Cal has an article, and the CalPatriot already posted to their blog. Melissa Jones, the BCR candidate finished 21st in last year’s elections, and presumably will become the new Senator. […]

Now we just need to send Manny Buenorostro back to Santa Barbara, and Anil Dariyani back to Halliburton!

We need to work together with BCR, so we can beat Student Action and the powerful special interests.
