Check your Website
Last I heard ASUC elections are 25-27, a month and a spring break away.Yesterday I saw Student Action began their campaign efforts.

The last sign says 11% funding increase for engineers. Another sign talks about how Cal Lobby Day was also “DONE.” Personally I would like to know what $500 fee increase they think they stopped.
If SA wants to campaign now, I am ok with that, even if it is early. But they are not ready. The website listed on the flyers is a year old. While I would be glad to vote for Manny, I don’t think he is running. So update your stuff before you begin littering campus with an outdated website.

The ASUC site itself is also a complete embarrassment. Its rarely updated and its more like something out of the satirical “Onion”. Currently, our esteemed “senators” are working on a “Petition for Left Handed Students”. They’re also giving out “Golden Apple Awards”. Not without irony, theres a large photo of an empty meeting room (indicative surely of the real work theyre doing). And on the “Presidents” site, its evident he has problem constructing basic sentences. And so forth…
Two million dollars a year for this.

I completely agree with you on the ASUC site. In fact, I have some comments about it coming up in the April Patriot. It always amazes me that people who are paid to do a job can do it worse then those who donate their own time.

Flyers are up already, huh?
I guess SA is trying to work the primacy effect (the first thing is see is the thing you remember, or hopefully vote for).

Whom does the ASUC pay to do their site? Those chimps in the Monster commercials?
Hmmm….I wonder if SA is predominately made up of poli sci majors.

Also, according to SA’s “DONE” page, they haven’t accomplished anything since Spring 2003. Haven’t we had 2 SA administrations since then?

My review from last year. For balance, Here’s the one for CalSERVE, and a commenter noted that it’s CalSERVErs who tell black people that voting day is later than it actually is.

Also, and even more important than the site appearance (where much is “under construction”), there is curiously no information on ASUC revenues/expenditures. All right, under budget documents there is a 2005-2006 budget, but it contains nothing on how much the ASUC get. For a group that gets almost 2 million in student fees, its a disgrace that theres no clear, detailed outline of where *all* those funds go. Every student has a right to see this information presented clearly and explicitly.

Yea yea yea, the SA website is old and not updated. We’re all on a time crunch and I rather have people in SA work on serving students than campaigns all year.
We’ll get around to it over spring break and update the DONE page too for your entertainment. Oh and btw I’m business & comptuer science, not poli sci.

” Oh and btw I’m business & comptuer science, not poli sci.”
My question is still relevant, however: is SA predominantly made up of poli sci majors and/or future would-be lawyers?
(I’m not saying that’s inherently bad, I just would like to know.)

I am a Poli Sci Mayor but not a future lawyer. I am a future, “I dont know what”, but a lawyer is not one of those options. For the next two years, i will be teaching elementary school in LA through Teach For America.

Good for you. Teachers are much more valuable than lawyers anyway.
