A Time For Choosing
Just to keep everyone updated on what’s going on with the conservative movement at Cal, the Berkeley College Republicans are currently working on bringing the California College Republicans convention to Cal in Spring 2007. Here’s a link to our website. On it is a copy of our bid in its current form, along with an explananation of the theme.
From the website: “When President Reagan uttered his now famous ‘A Time for Choosing’ speech, the United States was at a crossroads. Americans could choose to stand up for freedom against the oppression of socialism or sit idly by. In the 1980 presidential race, America chose the former over the latter, and America won that battle.
“Today, America is again at another crossroads. Some enemies are the same. The ideas of Lyndon Johnson – those of the nanny state – remain a persistent threat to economic freedom and property rights. Though socialism has passed, terrorism compels us to act with courage and urgency.
“This Convention of the California College Republicans, hosted by the Berkeley College Republicans, seeks to emphasize the significance of preserving our American foundation. It also seeks to focus on an internal choice facing Republicans. The path we as a party and a nation will go down in the 2008 presidential election begins here and now, in the People’s Republic of Berkeley. By standing tall for freedom, in the most unlikely place, we as college republicans can profoundly impact the future of the party – our future. Together we must preserve and support the ideals for which President Ronald Reagan boldly stood, and choose once again freedom over oppression, the individual over the commune.”
I think this is just the thing Cal needs to revitalize conservatives and their ideas, and to get the political momentum going for the primaries and general election coming up in 2008.
One last thing: in case anyone is interested, you can join the facebook group “A Time for Choosing” to get updates and discuss ideas for the convention bid.
Let’s help put the fire in the cosnervative cause, CCR Convention at Cal, 2007!

Looks cool. Here’s a link to Patriot coverage of the last time it was held here, back in 2003.
I dunno about Rick Santorum as keynote speaker though… Besides my personal distaste for the guy, there’s a good chance he will lose reelection. If the theme is “A time for choosing,” I ain’t choosing him. Maybe someone like (hopefully Lt. Gov.) Tom McClintock would be more inspiring, not to mention relevant to California. Just my personal opinion.

Here, here! Today the Swedes are so damn oppressed that they can barely manufacture their stylishly simple wood furniture!

Where have I seen the Reagan/Berlin wall graphics before? Patriot Radio? Right Wing Clothing? Every other Kyle Tibbits™ website.
PS. Would’t want to get sued for violating his trademark status. LOL™

Ben thought to let you know or you can pass this on to others, that not everyone likes enabling their Active X controls on their computers. These are windows for others to access one’s computer. I say this because most people do not have firefox or other safety-software, and/or intrusion detections on their computers. I’m saying this also because you might alienate some republicans that either do not have newer computers, have access only to older computers, and/or forbid Active X to be running on their computers. I would go with a simple set up like most websites. I know it looks pretty, but it’s not practical.

I’ll also enjoy seeing Bekeley go Mogadishu on Rick Santorum’s motorcade. Not that I dislike Santorum, but chaos would be so much fun.

Its a simple flash plugin. Most people don’t even know how to *turn off* the setting, let alone goof with it. Flash is generally well-accepted as a safe and fairly standard way of going about an interface. I anticipate relatively few problems, but, as a precaution, I have the rest of the page in standard HTML (I bothered to make sure the code is 4.01 validated, to minimize this whole compatibility thing), which provides a link to both email me about it and to download Flash&tm; player. People really *really* **really** overplay the whole vunerability thing. Its not even a fraction of the big deal that people make it out to be. There are dozens and dozens of cases of computers rendered inoperable from spyware (that doesn’t give a damn about ActiveX half the time…. it can help, but definately isn’t necessary), but I’ve very rarely actually run across a virus. AV software is good enough to make it a fairly small percentage of the population that gets viruses — including exploits taken via activeX and such — nowadays. Finally, as of the latest IE7 update and latest windows patches, you must click on a window that uses ActiveX in order to have it interface with your computer in any way, and Flash 8 also has a bunch of random security features. In short, I thought about it and took this course ;-). Hopefully our server will behave better than our PatriotRadio one (it tends to spazz unpredictably to my great irritation).
With regards to the Reagan image… hey, if it works it works, and it looks pretty good too. I’m no photoshop genius (I code), and last time we tried to get people to even design a banner for the BCR site we go…zero responses. I may play with new designs over the summer, but hey, its a nice graphic and a fair sight better than I can do without exorbitant amounts of time. Kyle has a good eye for design, anyway; I’m not arguing. When I design with no input, you get the most mimimalistic (but in its root, pretty powerful) interface I can get…. I even program in notepad….

Run a yahoo search for ‘activeX security issues’ and get 1,170,000 results.
Running another with similar search criteria ‘activeX security issues 2006’ and get 811,000 results.
I guess it not so much of a problem ( like you say) that no one talks about it anymore, and window security updates do not issue patches to new discovered problems ad nausea (Sarcasm).
I have the latest IE and have Active X off and view almost all the internet fine. The ‘interaction’ thing you were posting on was no problem. I have ( or anyone) to allow ActiveX to ‘download’ Microsoft security updates ( Sometimes), but I turn it off and go back to normal viewing of the internet with ActiveX turned off. Also, Microsoft automatically turns it on for the download (as I have experienced recently with automatic updates turned on) and then puts is back to off when it finishes. I think they understand the public pretty well by now. If you go to their site for a manual update, you must manually turn Active X off.
Anyway, It is standard courtesy to make shortcuts through plug-ins on webpages. Maybe my post wasn’t clear to this respect. Not everyone wants to download plug-ins, and for expediency like to see a shortcut strait to the HTML standard-coded pages. I do not see one on that front page. I’m not telling what to do; I was just making a suggestion.

I got an idea for the BCR banner. How about a photo of that dog pile from Abu Ghraib and at the bottom it says:”The Best Party on Campus!”

Its crucial its held in Berkeley. Once people see this place, the urgency of reform will become evident. Such an exemplar of the dangers of socialism

Yeah that’s what happened when they held it here in 2003. Socialism was wiped off the face of the earth.
LOL
