archangel1 - that's cute! It's like a mini-me - only conservative...and inattentive to details...and well, wrong more of the time than right. Come to think of it, it's more like a Twilight Zone Bizarro me!

As I've said many-o-times, The Proof is in the pudding (Actually, I may have never said that) - You little archangel1, please do show us all these "definite connections."

The "but some people would like" quotation isn't even mine, by the way - It's Yaman's. Small detail though.

You know who else shared a common enemy? Saddam and the USA! And the USA and Al Qaeda! That's because Saddam and Al Qaeda hated and distrusted each other as well. Quirky little circle here, eh?

Saddam was not involved in 9/11 - Get over it. Seriously. It's time to let go.

The person named "archangel" is wrong in his assessments. There were definite connection between al Qa'ida and Saddam Hussein as well as the Iraqi security services.

He stated "but some people would like us to believe that somehow both of these people were pragmatic enough to “overcome” these differences in order to attack America."

They shared a common enemy, the United States of America. The old adage "The enemy of my enemy is my friend" holds quite true in Islam. They will unite with anyone, even if only temporarily to acchieve a common goal. Saddam isn't a Muslim, but he hates America.

As to Saddam's imvolvement in 9/11, this remains to be seen in a provable manner. However, he did provide safe haven and passage through and in his territory more than once to al Qa'ida.

Don't you know terrorists are only pragmatic when we need them to be pragmatic?

Archangel: This is where the inconsistency with perception of terrorist groups is painfully clear. al-Qaeda and Saddam hated each other, that's a given; but some people would like us to believe that somehow both of these people were pragmatic enough to "overcome" these differences in order to attack America. Of course, they only have this capacity to be pragmatic when their actions are un-commendable. Bring us back to another very different group like Hamas that has been smudged into the same hodge-podge grouping of terrorists anyway, and who supposedly eternally "hates" Israel: with this group, the idea of that they might be pragmatic is simply unacceptable. They, after all, are not concerned enough about political realities on the ground, and are not concerned enough about their own welfare and the welfare of their constituents, to drive themselves into a pragmatic relationship with Israel.

That's a horrendous article.

It's trying to equate the possibility that Saddam supported terrorism in general with supporting Al-Qaeda specifically. By all accounts, there is no evidence that Saddam supported Al-Qaeda at all. Moreover, there is evidence that suggested Saddam and Al-Qaeda hated each other.

Silly. Look, the evidence doesn't support any real connection between Saddam and Al-Qaeda. It's a pretty simple fact. Deal with it.

Key word: operational

Did Saddam “Care” if Al-Kooky went to-an-fro from Iraq to America back to Iraq to set up 9/11, or use airplane fuselages south of Baghdad to train terrorist hijackers. - probably not. But was Saddam in day-to-day contact with Al-Kooky in effort to facilitate 9/11 – probably not.
