BCR Election Results
The Berkeley College Republicans elections were tonight. While the mood in the room was tense like most elections, it was better then the last two years. The board for 07-08 is:
President: Ross Lingenfelder
Internal Vice President: Shir Skolnik
External Vice President: Kyle Tibbitts
Treasurer: Ann-Marie Jelacich
Sectary: Danielle Mahan
Congratulations to everyone who won and also everyone else who ran. With the talent and dedication I saw tonight next year will be awesome if everyone works together.

Ross won? I guess you know what that means–BCR will become the newest Log Cabin Republican chapter.
Also, I’m surprised Kyle Bitchtits beat Roshit.

Right, Chris. Pass that memo onto Ross, who certainly took the “work together” approach when he joined Greg’s YAF club, when he tried to destroy Josiah’s CCR campaign, and when he ran against the BCR Senate nominee. How did that guy win?
Comment by Anonymous — 4/28/2007 @ 1:05 am
Because everything you mentioned he did was absolutely the right thing to do.
Comment by Bonasera — 4/28/2007 @ 11:29 am
Even if it was “the right thing to do” it doesn’t mean that he was “working together”, Bonasera. His campaign rhetoric was a load of B.S. By the way, Josiah must have royally screwed up for someone like Ross to win President. This election was a mandate against Josiah.
P.S. Geraldo hit the nail on the head.

And who says it was the right thing to do? The YAF group was stupid. No one cared about their cardboard wall. The people that got elected to CCR don’t care about Cal, and Chad won anyway even though Ross nearly ruined BCR’s Senate chances. This is pretty sad. Let’s see how good meetings will be next year with Ross as the face of BCR.

honestly this bickering needs to stop.
we all love BCR. publicly trashing its current and past leadership does nothing to help our image.
Comment by Ben Chapman — 4/28/2007 @ 4:28 pm
Again, tell that to Ross.
Comment by AnonymousII — 4/28/2007 @ 4:43 pm
BCR sure doesn’t love you, Ben. I dare you to ask the old and new boards what their honest opinion is about you.
Comment by Anonymous III — 4/28/2007 @ 5:37 pm
I have asked their opinions and I’m quite comfortable with my findings.
I’ve also asked people outside the boards, people at the table, people at meetings. again, quite comfortable with public perceptions of Mr. Casanova.
Comment by Ben Chapman — 4/28/2007 @ 6:12 pm
Ben, just fucking drop that “lets all get along” bullshit. You always try to play on both sides even as everyone around you hates each other and hates you. You keep asking for people to put aside their differences, without actually giving any solutions.
Most of these differences are legitimately hard to resolve. The fact that BCR has sunk so low is a testament to how much ALL the detractors have been right, and how much spineless little twinks like you have been wrong.
(Oh and about getting Chad elected. He barely made it, and, I believe, it is the personal network that really makes the difference. Independents who don’t have an executive slate and a few other running mates do not rely on party networks. Not that BCR actually has one. It’s a good thing Ross didn’t get the nomination, cause he doesn’t have the Greek vote and he doesn’t have ROTC support. And I doubt the Log Cabin would have made up for the deficit, Matt Bunch has graduated years ago.)

Wow teh lames.
By the way, the reference to ‘the’ nomination suggests that folks don’t know how the ASUC election works. BCR can (and probably should) run a slate to pool those personal networks. DAAP and SQUELCH don’t run 20 candidates because they think they’re going to get 20 seats.

I can’t believe all the petty stuff I’m hearing! For those who are criticizing Ben and how “spineless” he’s being, look who’s doing the criticizing anonymously on a blog?!
ANYWAY, what’s done is done. Chad is on the Senate. The new Executive Board has been elected. Deal with it, and ditch the slander nonsense.

get a life, all of you.
Ben, let’s get a beer and reason with one another. you’re the only one here who can do so.

Anonymous6:
He’s too busy to get a beer with you. His reasoning powers are needed to resolve that pesky Israel/Palestine issue. Thank GOD for Ben! He will lead the way toward a better planet, for all of us!!! (Especially the midgets.)

Trust me. I wouldn’t have been supporting Ross in that election. Ross lost Senate because he wasn’t a worthy candidate for the campus in general. Chad won because he was a good candidate.
In years past, BCR candidates were able to win with BCR votes because the organization wasn’t nearly as factioned and supported a single candidate who was also able to draw some votes from elsewhere.
James Gallagher won because he had BCR, his fraternity. Paul LaFata won with BCR support and popularity gained outside of the club. Mel Jones lost because while she was able to draw BCR votes, she didn’t draw sufficient votes from elsewhere and had a lackluster campaign. Victoria won because she had a stellar campaign and drew Greek votes along with BCR. Chad earned his seat similarly with Greek support to supplement BCR (despite another candidate trying to steal his votes).
And seriously, enough with the Log Cabin jokes. Gay jokes are so outdated.
Comment by Matt Bunch — 5/1/2007 @ 2:19 pm
Another reason Ross lost for Senate was because he didn’t try to win. I’m not saying he would have won had he tried, but you sound like you weren’t paying all that much attention.
Again, the idea that losers can “steal” votes in ASUC Senate elections is silly.
Comment by Beetle — 5/1/2007 @ 2:56 pm
Beetle’s right. It’s amazing that Matt Bunch doesn’t understand this simple concept of ASUC elections.
Comment by Pat Robertson — 5/1/2007 @ 3:50 pm
Pat, shouldn’t you be busy hocking your energy drinks and lifting thousands of pounds with your skinny 77 year old legs?
Comment by Matt Bunch — 5/1/2007 @ 4:21 pm
Why would the log cabin thing be a joke?
Comment by LOL — 5/1/2007 @ 4:23 pm
Alright, a few short points I’d like to address:
1- Ross did end his campaign due to his own reasons. People still voted for him anyway, but he might’ve had a chance if he did all the campaigning stuff. So we don’t know if he would’ve won. We do know he would’ve represented BCR’s interests as well as possible.
2- Ross didn’t “steal” ANY votes, or at least he didn’t encourage people to vote for him once his campaign ended. In fact, he strongly supported Chad after this and was a key member of Chad’s campaign.
3- Let’s not compare Chad being a good candidate with Chad being an electionable candidate. He had the BCR, Greek community, and ROTC. With that, he could win and did, even by a slim margin. HOWEVER, he is only a freshman, and they don’t even know him well in BCR to know for sure how he’ll represent the club. Plus, I’ve been hearing word that he was a jerk to people in the club when they weren’t doing work for him every second. Let’s see how good of candidate he is.
That is all.
Comment by Anonymous56 — 5/1/2007 @ 7:36 pm
I don’t know what Ross’ reasons were for running for ASUC but I am sick of hearing this crap about how he shouldn’t have done it because of another BCR candidate. This is bullcrap. He can do whatever he wants.
Also sorry to see that Rohit didn’t win.
Its funny to see Ben Chapman comment on getting along when he betrayed so many people in the past by siding either with one side or another.
