We tell you what they won’t.

COLUMN: The Real Surprise

Columnist Aaron Azlant writes of the several pre-election “October Surprises,” that could have usurped the Bush re-election, such as the bogus missing munitions story. He notes, “[Bush or Kerry] victory will be damaging to the part of American politics that I most vaue- the John Stewart middle ground.” If John Stewart is in the middle, then John McCain and Joe Lieberman are far right-wingers. Stewart endorsed John Kerry for President and threw softball questions at the senator when he was on the Daily Show. Azlant goes on to mention that he is unenthusiastically supporting Kerry, for he is “the only candidate with a general world view that has advanced beyond the 13th century.” Does the post 13th century world view include the “global test” that John Kerry wants America to take? Since when was defending ones nation considered archaic?

FRONT PAGE: Foreign Policy Dominates Election

Like the rest of the Mainstream Media, the Daily Cal projected that the election would be dominated by Foreign Policy, and dismissed moral values as a factor. This is understandable, as pre-election surveys showed that the War on Terror was the main issue on the minds of voters. When it came time to vote, however, morality dominated. According to an MSNBC survey, 21 percent of voters said “moral issues” were the biggest factor in their decision. Newsmax reports that in swing states, voters picked the president based on moral issues over economic issues by 84-15. Someone should have told John Kerry, “It’s morality, stupid!”

LETTERS: Missing Explosives in Iraq Indicative of Bush Failures

Letter-writer Jonathan Muzinich claims that the missing explosives are indicative of Bush’s mishandling of the war in Iraq. Doesn’t that mean there were Weapon’s of Mass Destruction? First, the President’s critics attack him for lying about nonexistent weapons, and now they are attacking him for not keeping track of weapons that they said did not exist. Muzinich’s criticisms are indicative of the liberal double standard.

The truth about these weapons was revealed by a US Army Soldier from the 3rd Infantry Division on Friday Oct. 29. Maj. Austin Pearson told reporters at a Pentagon news conference that he was part of a special task force 250 tons of munitions and other material from the Al-Qaqaa arms-storage facility. This special force arrived at the facility ten days after US forces first reached the site.

FRONT PAGE: Bush Captures Second Term

Here’s what the Daily Cal didn’t tell you about Bush’s stunning victory: President George W. Bush is the first president since 1988 to win more than 50% of the popular vote. He is the first incumbent president to increase his party’s majority in both the House and Senate, and increased his own total with 3.5 million voters since Franklin D. Roosevelt. The President also broke Ronald Reagan’s vote record of 54.5 million with over 59 million votes. This time around, Bush took the Catholic vote, and did a better job increasing his popularity among black voters than Kerry. The President won 42% of the Hispanic vote and 24% of the Jewish vote. The numbers prove it- This is BUSH COUNTRY.

COLUMN: Four More Years of Winter

Unlike the title of this column suggests, 51% of Voters do not feel the winter cold. In fact, 59,408,221 Americans will be basking under the sun of a Bush Cheney summer. Columnist Tejas Narechania praises Kerry’s classy concessions, which was praiseworthy indeed, but goes on to lambaste Bush’s victory declaration. He calls it a prime example of this administration’s “brazen arrogance and go-it-aloneness.” On behalf of Bush, I will apologize that the president did not wait until Dan Rather declared him the winner before a formal declaration of victory took place.

Narechania offers a remedy for the wounded Democratic party. “The Democratic Party will simply have to reconsider its platform and direction.” They could start with disassociating with Michael Moore and the fanatic Hollywood Liberals who give the party a bad name. The election made it clear that Americans do not need P. Diddy or Puff Daddy (the Democrats truly have the propensity to flip-flop) or whatever his name is to tell them how to vote.

NEWS IN BRIEF: Man Found Living in Cave at Los Alamos Lab

The name of the homeless man found living in the cave at Los Alamos Lab is Roy MICHAEL MOORE. At a glance, one would think that Moore lost it after hearing the election results, ran to Berkeley for sanctuary in the last Liberal haven, and found himself pathetically lamenting in a cave. Upon closer inspection of the article, one would discover that this was unfortunately not the case. Instead, Michael Moore is packing for Canada, and grossly exploiting the deaths of the American soldiers in Iraq on his website.

OPINION: Youth Vote Dissapoints

Like every other liberal outlet, the Daily Cal continues scaring young people with false prophecies of a draft. “President Bush has the ability to reinstate a draft…” To quote Ronald Reagan, “There you go again.” Here is what Bush has to say about this alleged daft: "No, we're not going -- we don't need the draft. Look, the all-volunteer Army is working. The all-volunteer Army... I know Senator McCain and I agree on this issue for certain, the all-volunteer Army works." What does VP Cheney have to say? "I don't foresee a situation in which we'd want to go back to the draft.” What about Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld? "That is absolute nonsense... It's absolutely false that anyone in this administration is considering reinstituting the draft." So there you have it.

While neither Bush nor Kerry truly wanted a draft, it would have been Kerry’s policies that would have led to one. Kerry proposed having 40,000 more troops in Iraq, but at the same time many soldiers planned not to re-enlist if Kerry became president. With troops leaving under a Kerry Administration, and Kerry’s promise for more troops, the combined situations would have ultimately resulted in a draft. Luckily, the election avoided such a predicament.
