Welcome to the start of a new semester here in Berkeley! By now, I’m sure all of us have once again become reacquainted with the relative insanity that is Berkeley. I’m also sure that we all already need a vacation someplace sunny and Republican.
To all of you spring admits, I want to apologize, because the Patriot is hitting the ground running with its first issue of the New Year. There simply is not time to introduce you fully to all of the basics of the progressivism run-amok in Berkeley. Dive right in; the Patriot knows you have the inner strength to fight off those who would try to make you support Lyndon LaRouche, or worse yet, John Kerry.
With the Presidential primaries in full swing, the Patriot provides you in this issue with many of the tools to make the intelligent choice on March 2, the date of the California primary. Guides to the candidates, analyses of their messages, and even an excerpt from a debate all should help you get a handle on the Democratic candidates. It certainly is possible that you might come away sporting a bumper: “Republicans for Howard Dean.”
Of course, it is more likely that you will come away outraged that the Berkeley police are not fully enforcing our Nation’s drug laws, increasing crime. It is also more likely that you will feel sick over the failure of the Berkeley city government to fix the homeless problem. And it is certainly more likely you are going to rethink your opinions of the Democratic candidates, as it becomes all too clear that every one of them will stop at nothing to win the nomination and the election. The Patriot did not have to work hard to point out their obvious pandering, constant attention to opinion polls, and overall ridiculousness and absurdity.
While the Democrats argue about how much to raise taxes, there is a candidate in 2004 who is a proven tax cutter. In fact, these tax cuts have been the driving force behind the current economic boom. As well, this same candidate has continued to ensure that US troops will see the mission in Iraq through. It is President George W. Bush who helped kick start a slumping economy and strove to protect this nation from terrorist threats. Can any of the Democratic candidates claim the same?
So, whether you are a spring admit or seasoned Berkeley veteran, the Patriot will continue to provide you with the information that you need to make intelligent choices. Our mission has always been to expose the lunacy of the Left-wing in Berkeley, while providing a fair and balanced look at the issues that affect all of us. We are going to make sure that the debate in Berkeley does not stay one-sided.
Everyone has now had winter break. It’s back to work.
