Conservative jobs: Opportunities to make a difference

From the May 2008 Print Edition

Tom McClintock

Republican State Senator Tom McClintock is pretty much the only politician out there we can truly trust not to raise our taxes. That’s why it is imperative to send him to the U.S. Congress. He is currently involved in a primary campaign, and will need help until November if he wins the primary. His campaign office in Roseville could use unpaid interns to help with the ground operations, from putting together precinct-walking packets to coordinating volunteers. This is a great way to help out a true conservative while learning what campaigning is all about.

The NRA

The National Rifle Association is critical to protecting our Second Amendment Rights, and you can join this effort. The NRA is hiring for jobs in fields from accounting and marketing to running shotgun tournaments. There are also internship opportunities available: As an intern with the Communications Department, you can assist with answering media calls, preparing and sending out press releases, and screening media calls. As a Program Specialist Intern, you can write articles for publication and even learn how to engrave plates for NRA championship trophies.

The Leadership Institute

Conservatism is under attack in every part of this country. Take the fight to the liberals by becoming a Field Representative for the Leadership Institute. As a Field Representative, you get to travel to different parts of our nation, building grassroots conservative movements on college campuses. LI’s Field Representatives are some of the best-trained organizers, who have helped to shape the most successful college conservative movements in the country. Guide the newest members of the Reagan Revolution in organizing projects and events that help advance the conservative cause. Whether it is an affirmative-action bake sale, or a pro-troops rally, the Field Representatives will always be there to help. Don’t confine conservatism to a cubicle; share it proudly with the rest of America as a Field Representative.

Capital Fellows Program

Though the deadline for applying for this year’s Capital Fellows program has passed, you can still prepare for next year’s program. This program allows recent college graduates to work in the State Senate, Assembly, executive branch, or judicial branch of the government. There are 18 open positions in the Assembly, Senate, and executive branch and 10 openings in the judicial branch. The fellowship begins in September and continues until October of the following year. Fellows receive a stipend of $1,972 per month plus health benefits. Many prominent California legislators are alumni of the Capital Fellows program, including Assemblyman Todd Spitzer and State Board of Equalization Member Bill Leonard. This is a great opportunity for those who have graduated college as a stepping stone into the world of politics.

John McCain Presidential Campaign

The John McCain 2008 campaign organization for Alameda County needs volunteers to work to elect Senator John S. McCain the 44th president of the United States and all Republican candidates for Congress, Assembly, and Senate, grow the membership of the Republican Party in Alameda County, and promote the Republican Party’s conservative principles. Volunteers with previous business or political experience who can give 10 to 15 hours per week may serve as city or precinct captains for the upcoming election.
